BLACK MOUNTAIN VISITORS CENTER

Geology and views: the two most striking aspects of the site. My concept is to incorporate the two into a structure that highlights both. The design is focused on going into the mountain, and transitioning outwards into the view. The exaggerated staircase leading into the lobby provides a sense of going into the mountain, as do the exterior bathroom spaces. The gallery and major/minor spaces are oriented towards the view and the look out walkways. The large hallway connects the two and encourages circulation. Land is acknowledged through the entry element and materiality.
