END7EAF : DESIGN VILLAGE
Our project explores how cardboard can be used as a building material in a small-scale structure. END7EAF originated from the definition of an endleaf, being the last page in a book (with the inclusion of a 7 to acknowledge the 7 group members). Our design focused on that idea of an endleaf, intertwining it to the theme “eternal” through removing the endleaf and making the project infinite. The design we worked with was cyclical, with 5 major beams and columns connected by a center key. The beams and columns were braced with paracord through a custom bracing key system. The beam-column connection was pinned for transport and construction. Each member of the project was made through laminating sheets of cut cardboard to make workable surfaces more sturdy than a single sheet of corrugated cardboard. Fabric shading was added later to the project, as a cherry on top. The project as a whole contained pure design forms, respecting symmetry and relationship to the slope below. Overall, the project itself was a success.
