INT’L ARCHITECTURE MUSEUM
The International Architecture Museum of Chicago is intended to house, foster, and reflect upon the practice of architecture. Complete with permanent and temporary exhibit space, the museum allows space for architecture to be put on display. There are also classroom and lecture space, for those who wish to deepen their knowledge and connection to architecture. The library stack space and computer spaces provide a safe haven for knowledge, encouraging those who enter to take a moment and learn or reflect in peace. The roof cafe, open 24/7 provides a space for those who wish to grab a quick bite while taking in the breathtaking skyline of Chicago and sweeping views of Lake Michigan. There is ample support space, hidden underground and in the core to allow for maximum usable square footage. The site of this project is unique, as it houses an existing 75’ deep hole, the ghost of an uncompleted project. To utilize this hole, site design was a priority, as was site context.
